Once implants have integrated, one of the most predictable and precise ways to restore them is with CAD/CAM technology. After obtaining the digital impression with an intraoral scanner, the STL file is transferred to computer software that allows design, nesting, and cutting from a solid block of restorative materials: zirconia, resin, lithium disilicate to name a few. The step by step process is discussed, as well as current systems available. 3D printing allows rapid and precise production of diagnostic models, prosthetic models, occlusal orthotic devices, and nighttime appliances. Digital wax ups may also be completed without ever touching wax!
